Private label cosmetics manufacturing
Take a formula our lab has already developed and tested, put your brand on it, and go to market. It is the fastest and cheapest route to a real product on a real shelf — and there are trade-offs you should understand before choosing it.
Private label, OEM and ODM — what the terms mean
These words are used loosely across the industry, which causes a lot of confusion in quotes. Here is what we mean by them.
| Term | What you get | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Private label | An existing, tested factory formula with your branding on it. Minimal or no formula work. | Fastest and cheapest. The formula is not unique to you — other brands can use the same base. |
| OEM | Start from a factory formula and modify it — colour, fragrance, adding or changing actives. | Still fast and affordable, and the result is recognisably yours. The middle route most brands take. |
| ODM | A formula developed from scratch against your brief. | Highest cost, longest timeline, higher minimum order — and a product built around your brand rather than a shared base. |
In practice these sit on a spectrum, and most projects land somewhere in the middle. When you compare quotes from different factories, check which of these each one is actually quoting for — the difference is easily large enough to explain a price gap you were told was about "quality".
Private label is the right call when…
- You are testing a market — spend as little as possible finding out whether anyone wants the product, then invest in a custom formula once you know.
- Your brand is the product — for many businesses the audience, the story and the distribution are the asset. The formula does not need to be unique for the business to work.
- Speed matters more than differentiation — a seasonal window, an event, a launch tied to something else. Production takes about 7–14 days from confirmed spec and payment.
- You are filling out a range — a hero product on a custom formula, supporting products on private label, so the budget goes where it counts.
- The budget is genuinely tight — no development cost, no long sampling cycle, lower minimum order. A starting budget of around 30,000 THB is realistic.
What you can still make your own
Private label does not mean identical products with different stickers. Plenty is still yours to decide.
Packaging and format
Jar, tube, pump bottle, dropper or sachet — a large part of how the product is perceived, and entirely your choice.
Artwork and label design
Your design, subject to the mandatory information your destination market requires on the label.
Fragrance and colour
Usually adjustable even on a private label base, and often the thing customers actually notice first.
Fill size
Where the format allows it, the fill volume is yours to set, which affects both your price point and how the product is used.
The range and how it fits together
Which products you select and how they work as a set is a brand decision, not a factory one.
How you position and sell it
The formula is the smallest part of why a customer chooses one brand over another. Everything else is still yours.
Being straight about the trade-off
The formula is not exclusive
That is the definition of the category, and it is exactly why it costs less and moves faster. Any supplier promising you an exclusive private label formula at private label prices is telling you something that does not add up.
It is still your responsibility
Your name is on the product. Registration, label compliance and what you claim in your marketing are your obligations as the brand owner, whoever made the contents.
You can upgrade later
Plenty of brands launch on private label, learn what their customers actually respond to, and move the winners onto custom formulas afterwards. That is a sensible sequence, not a compromise.
